In "The M Word," the sixth episode of Parenthood's fifth season, the Braverman family contends with the aftermath of having Max (Max Burkholder) in high school. His parents - Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina (Monica Potter) - struggle to balance their own needs with Max's individualized education plan (IEP), and how it fits into their family dynamic. They also must confront the fact that their high school-aged son has never had a girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Sarah (Lauren Graham) and Mark (Jason Ritter) hit a snag in their relationship that challenges their future. Elsewhere, Julia (Erika Christensen) and Joel (Sam Jaeger) attempt to repair their crumbling marriage with the help of counseling - though things prove more difficult than they anticipated.

Finally, Crosby (Dax Shepard) and Jasmine (Joy Bryant) adjust to life with a new baby, and devise a plan to spend more quality time together amidst the chaos of parenthood. Amidst these storylines, the strain and love of the Braverman family is tested once, again in a way that is both heartwarming and relatable.

"The M Word" is a standout episode in a series that consistently delivers on powerful family dynamics and genuine emotion. Viewers are sure to be captivated by the trials and tribulations of the Bravermans, and relate to the struggles that both parents and children face in day-to-day life.
