The episode Let's Be Mad Together from Parenthood season 5 showcases the Braverman family dealing with various issues that arise in their personal and professional lives. The episode begins with Julia struggling to find a job after leaving her previous employment. She meets with a potential employer but comes off as too aggressive and is turned down.
Meanwhile, Joel is trying to get back into the construction industry after taking a break to stay at home with their children. He has an interview lined up but is hesitant to go as he feels like he has lost touch with the industry. Julia encourages him to try and he ends up getting the job.
Elsewhere, Amber is struggling with her relationship with Ryan. She is worried that he is not fully committed to their relationship and is still dealing with his PTSD from the war. Julia advises Amber to give Ryan time to deal with his issues but Amber is unsure and reaches out to her uncle Crosby for advice.
Crosby, on the other hand, is having woman trouble of his own. He has started dating Renee, the mother of a child in Jabbar's school. He likes her but is not sure if he is ready for a serious relationship. He confides in his brother Adam who encourages him to take a chance and be vulnerable.
Adam, who is usually the voice of reason in the family, is dealing with his own anger issues. He has been lashing out at his wife, Kristina, and is not sure why. He confides in his sister Sarah who tells him to let go of his anger and embrace his vulnerability.
The episode also focuses on Max, who is continuing to struggle with his Asperger's. He is upset that his classmates are making fun of him because of his condition and decides to take action by running for class president. He delivers a speech that impresses his classmates and wins the election.
Throughout the episode, we see the Braverman family come together to support each other in their individual struggles. They remind each other that it's okay to be vulnerable, to take chances, and most importantly, to be mad together. The episode ends with the family coming together at a dance party, enjoying each other's company and letting loose.
