Paradise PD season 2 episode 1, titled "Paradise Found," picks up where the first season left off with Chief Randall Crawford and the rest of the Paradise PD attempting to rid their small town of crime. However, this season introduces a new challenge for the squad - rival police department, the Thunder Girls, led by the ruthless Gina Jabowski.
As the episode starts, the Paradise PD are in a bit of a transitional phase. They've got a new station, a new dog (who they've named Bullet after the famous police dog), and a new focus on community outreach. But little do they know, they're about to be faced with a whole new level of competition. Enter the Thunder Girls, who roll into town with their bright pink cruisers and matching uniforms. Gina Jabowski, the leader of the Thunder Girls, is the epitome of a tough lady cop - with a sharp tongue and a chip on her shoulder. She also happens to be Chief Crawford's ex-girlfriend.
As the two departments compete to solve a series of break-ins at a local strip mall, tensions run high. Chief Crawford is reluctant to work with Jabowski, but the rest of the Paradise PD are excited about the prospect of having a worthy adversary. Meanwhile, Fitz and Hopson embark on a wild goose chase to capture an elusive stoner named Stuart, and Dusty gets caught up in a game of cops and robbers with the local kids.
The episode is as irreverent and crass as fans have come to expect from the show, but there is a noticeable shift in tone towards the end. Without giving anything away, the final scene sets up a major plot point for the rest of the season, and hints at a more dramatic direction for the show.
Overall, "Paradise Found" is a solid start to the second season of Paradise PD. It's clear that the writers are building on the foundation they set in season one, and introducing some new elements to keep things fresh. The rivalry between the Paradise PD and the Thunder Girls is shaping up to be a major source of conflict this season, and there are sure to be plenty of laughs along the way.
