In Episode 5 of Paper Girls Season 1, the story picks up right where Episode 4 left off. The four time-traveling paper girls (Erin, Mac, KJ, and Tiffany) find themselves transported to the year 2016 in the middle of a suburbia. They've lost their walkie-talkies and have no way to communicate with one another or their future selves.
As the girls try to find one another, they realize that they are being chased by people in hazmat suits. While trying to evade their pursuers, each girl has a chance to experience 2016 in her own way. Tiffany discovers the internet for the first time and gets lost in the world of social media. KJ sees how much technology has advanced since her own time and is fascinated by the possibilities. Mac is horrified by how much everything has changed and yearns for her own time. Erin, meanwhile, sees her own house and family but can't make contact with them.
Despite their different experiences, the girls eventually reunite and come up with a plan to retrieve their walkie-talkies and return to their own time. However, when they venture into a mysterious house to retrieve their belongings, they are met with unexpected obstacles. They discover that the hazmat suit-wearing people aren't just chasing them because of their time-traveling but because they are after an object that the girls possess.
As the episode progresses, we see glimpses of the larger story arc of the series. It becomes clear that the girls aren't just time-traveling for the fun of it and that there are greater forces at work. The episode ends with a cliffhanger as the girls discover something shocking and unexpected in the basement of the house they've entered.
Overall, Episode 5 of Paper Girls Season 1 is an exciting continuation of an already intriguing story. It does a great job of showcasing the different personalities of the four main characters while also moving the plot forward. It's an episode that leaves the viewer on the edge of their seat, eager to see what happens next.
