The show Panchayat follows the story of an engineering graduate named Abhishek who takes up a job as a Panchayat Secretary in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh. In episode 3 titled Chakke Wali Kursi, Abhishek is still struggling to adjust to life in the village and his job. He finds it difficult to deal with the slow-paced life and lack of excitement, and often feels like he is wasting his potential.
The episode begins with Abhishek trying to fix the gramophone in the Panchayat office, which has been lying unused for years. He manages to get it working again and is ecstatic to hear the music play. However, his joy is short-lived when Pradhanpati enters the office and demands that the gramophone be removed as it is taking up space that could be used for a new chair.
Abhishek is taken aback at the Pradhanpati's demand, as the chair in question is an old and rickety one that no one uses. However, he soon realizes that the Pradhanpati has a personal vendetta against the chair, which he believes was responsible for his father's death. The chair was used by his father during his last moments, and the Pradhanpati blames it for not providing him with the comfort he needed.
Abhishek tries to reason with the Pradhanpati, but the latter remains adamant. He threatens to remove the gramophone himself if Abhishek doesn't comply with his demand. Meanwhile, the Sarpanch advises Abhishek to give in to the Pradhanpati's demand, as it is a small price to pay for maintaining peace in the village. Abhishek reluctantly agrees and decides to order a new chair, but finds that he doesn't have enough funds in his budget for the purchase.
He then decides to approach the BDO (Block Development Officer) for additional funds, but is met with a rude and uncooperative staff. The BDO herself is unavailable, and Abhishek is left in a state of frustration. He decides to take matters into his own hands and approaches the local furniture maker in the village to see if he can repair the old chair.
The furniture maker, however, is reluctant to take up the job. He warns Abhishek that the chair is cursed, and repairing it could bring bad luck to the village. Abhishek dismisses his claims as superstition and convinces him to take up the job by offering him extra money. The furniture maker agrees, and Abhishek is relieved that he can finally solve the issue.
The rest of the episode follows Abhishek's attempts to get the chair repaired and the Pradhanpati's reactions to the same. It also shows how Abhishek's frustration with his job and life in the village gets the better of him at times, and how he tries to deal with it.
Overall, episode 3 of Panchayat is a lighthearted and entertaining watch that showcases the challenges faced by those working in rural India. It also sheds light on the superstitions and beliefs that exist in small villages, and how they impact everyday life.
