In Packed To The Rafters season 2 episode 8, titled "What's in a Name?", the Rafter family faces several challenges related to the names they carry.
Firstly, Dave is troubled by the fact that his birth name was actually "David", and that his parents had shortened it without his consent. He seeks advice from Julie, who assures him that it's perfectly normal to change one's name or go by a nickname. However, Dave remains unsure about whether to confront his parents about the issue.
Meanwhile, Rachel's boyfriend Jake is struggling with the fact that his own name is actually "Jacob", which he finds bland and uninteresting. Rachel encourages him to embrace his name, pointing out that it has a rich history and meaning behind it. However, Jake remains keen on changing it to something more unique and cool-sounding.
Lastly, Carbo and Retta are faced with a dilemma when they discover that the name they've picked out for their unborn child is already taken by one of their friends' kids. They debate whether to stick with the name regardless, or come up with a new one.
Amidst all these name-related issues, the Rafters also deal with other everyday problems. Ben struggles to find a new job after quitting his old one, and worries about letting his family down. Nathan, meanwhile, juggles his job at a new bar with his commitments as a father and husband.
As usual, Packed To The Rafters balances its dramatic storyline with moments of humour and heartwarming family interactions. "What's in a Name?" continues to explore the themes of identity and belonging that are central to the show's premise, while also providing viewers with plenty of laughs and emotional moments.
