In episode 2, "Hard Times at the Huskin' Bee," the brothers stumble upon a traditional corn husking bee. Wirt is hesitant to participate, but Greg jumps right in and starts to make friends.
As they take part in the festivities, they learn that the people of The Unknown are facing a shortage of food and other supplies. The town's mayor, a stern looking woman with a mysterious past, declares that if the people don't collect enough corn to survive the winter, they will be in big trouble. Determined to help, Greg comes up with a plan to save the day, but it all goes awry when they encounter a true monster in the cornfields.
Wirt and Greg find themselves battling the monster, trying to save the day, but they soon learn that things are not always what they seem in The Unknown. They discover that the town's people have been holding a secret for years, a secret that could spell disaster if it's revealed. As they navigate through the spooky cornfields, encountering strange and terrifying creatures, the brothers must rely on each other to make it through alive.
Throughout their journey, Wirt and Greg also learn about some of the other characters that inhabit The Unknown. The Woodsman, a taciturn man with an axe, warns the brothers to stay away from certain areas in the woods. Beatrice, a sassy bluebird, offers to help them find their way home, but only if they help her first. Meanwhile, a group of ghostly musicians follow the boys around, providing a haunting soundtrack to their adventures.
