In this first episode of Over The Garden Wall, viewers are introduced to two half-brothers, Wirt and Greg, who find themselves lost in the woods. Wirt, the elder of the two, is cautious and rational while Greg is carefree and adventurous. As they wander deeper into the forest, they come across an ominous old grist mill and decide to investigate.

Once inside, the boys are greeted by an eccentric old man with an affinity for frogs named Quincy Endicott. He offers them a seemingly innocent task of retrieving his lost frog, but as the brothers attempt to fulfill the task, they encounter a series of bizarre and unsettling events.

As they explore the mill, they come across a ghostly figure known as the "Beast" who warns them not to leave the mill. Despite the warning, they continue to search for the frog and eventually find themselves trapped in the mill with no apparent escape.

Throughout the episode, viewers are introduced to a variety of strange and mysterious characters, from a talking bluebird to a group of lumberjacks who warn the boys of the dangers of the forest. It becomes clear that nothing is quite what it seems in this strange world, and the boys must rely on their wits and each other to survive.

The episode ends with a haunting song sung by one of the characters, leaving viewers with a sense of unease and curiosity as to what other mysteries and challenges await Wirt and Greg in the coming episodes.
