In this episode of Outlander season 5, titled "Mercy Shall Follow Me," the Frasers face several challenges as they try to navigate through their new lives in America. Jamie and Roger return from a trip to find that the men of Fraser's Ridge are being taken by Governor Tryon to fight in the Regulator War. While they are gone, Brianna and Claire struggle with a medical emergency as Brianna goes into premature labor.
Meanwhile, Jamie is forced to make a difficult decision when he is presented with a warrant for Murtagh's arrest. Murtagh, who is now the leader of the Regulators, is Jamie's godfather and a beloved member of the Fraser clan. Jamie is torn between his loyalty to his family and his duty to the Crown.
As the war heats up and tensions rise, the Frasers are forced to take sides and decide where their allegiances lie. Brianna and Roger face their own challenges when they are forced to leave the safety of Fraser's Ridge and venture into unknown territory in order to ensure their safety.
Throughout the episode, the theme of mercy is explored. Jamie is faced with the difficult decision of whether to show mercy to Murtagh and risk his own safety, or turn him in to the authorities. Brianna and Claire have to practice mercy in their own way as they face their own medical emergency.
