Living Hell is the ninth episode of the first season of Outer Limits. The episode begins with a group of astronauts on a mission to explore a new planet. They land on the planet and immediately begin to experience strange occurrences. One of the crew members, Lieutenant Colonel John Kinneman, disappears while the rest of the crew is setting up camp. They assume he just wandered off but when they can't find him they begin to worry.

The rest of the crew begins to feel strange as well. They begin to experience hallucinations and paranoia. The commander, Major General George Enderby, orders the crew to turn back and leave the planet but they are unable to do so. The ship's engines have been sabotaged and they are stranded on the planet.

As the days pass, the crew members become more and more isolated from each other. They begin to turn on each other and the paranoia builds. They start to realize that they are not alone on the planet and that there is something out there with them. They spot Kinneman's lifeless body and investigate the surrounding area to find out what happened. They discover a hidden underground complex and begin to learn the truth about the planet they have landed on.

The complex is a secret government facility where prisoners are sent to be tortured and experimented on. The prisoners are kept in a state of suspended animation and forced to relive their worst memories over and over. The crew members are confused and disturbed by what they find and realize they have been unwittingly trapped in the facility.

As they investigate further, they find out that the facility is run by a sadistic scientist named Dr. Halsey. She has created a virtual reality program which she uses to torture her prisoners. The crew members become trapped in the program and are forced to relive their own worst memories. They are tormented by this virtual reality program until they are able to break free.

The crew must work together to escape the facility. They face a number of obstacles as they try to make their way back to their ship. They are followed by Dr. Halsey and her minions and must fight to survive. The crew is able to escape the facility and make it back to their ship, but not before sacrificing one of their own.

The crew members are haunted by what they have experienced on the planet. They vow never to forget what they have learned and to always remember the horrors they witnessed. Living Hell is a dark and disturbing episode of Outer Limits which leaves a lasting impact on the viewer. It is a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked power and the cruelty of those in positions of authority.
