In season 1 episode 6 of Our Cartoon President named "Media Strategy," the audience follows the daily routine and private thoughts of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, as he embarks on an aggressive campaign to address the negative press that is incessantly attacking his administration.
At the heart of this quest is the White House Communications Director Hope Hicks, who has been tasked with revamping the administration's image via the media. She enlists the help of a savvy public relations strategist, Joyce Ramona, to craft a successful media strategy.
Using a combination of television appearances, press releases, and social media posts, the team attempts to control the narrative and change the public's perception of the administration. However, the strategy proves difficult to pull off, given that Trump continues to generate negative headlines with his erratic behavior and controversial policies.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence struggles to maintain his relevance within the administration and attempts to gain favor with Trump by executing his media-relations tasks. However, his efforts are consistently thwarted by White House Chief of Staff, John Kelly, who views Pence as a liability to the administration's success.
As the episode progresses, Trump's frustration with the media's coverage of him reaches a boiling point and he decides to take matters into his own hands. He begins to impulsively send out tweets that contradict the carefully crafted media strategy, which puts the entire team in jeopardy.
Ultimately, the episode serves as a commentary on the Trump administration's volatile relationship with the media and their attempts to control the narrative around their actions. The episode provides an ironic look at the inner workings of the administration and their attempts at messaging, as they continually contradict their own narratives and send mixed messages.
