The show combines beautiful cinematography with fascinating factual information to tell a compelling tale of the real world around us. From the history in foreign lands with a global significance, such as the episode "Lost Mines of The Pharaohs" set in modern Afghanistan, to details of the lives of animals and their complex ecosystem, such as the episode "Blue Danube, Black Sea," the series weaves an intricate tapestry of the story of life on this small blue marble.
Many episodes are a mix of geology, geography, biology and human history. The interdisciplinary approach to the subject matter gives the show a special appeal.
