Only Fools and Horses is a classic British sitcom that follows the lives of two brothers, Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter and Rodney Trotter, as they try to make a living in Peckham, London. Season 4 episode 6, titled 'Watching the Girls Go By', sees Del and Rodney attempting to impress some women, with hilarious consequences.
The episode begins with Del and Rodney sitting in their local pub, The Nags Head, discussing their latest scheme. They have decided to become sidewalk artists, hoping to make a quick buck by selling their paintings to tourists. Rodney is skeptical, but Del is convinced that he's onto a winner.
Their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of two attractive women, Miranda and Imogen. Del and Rodney are immediately smitten, and they start trying to impress the girls with their artistic talents. This leads to some hilarious scenes, as Del and Rodney try to create paintings that are worthy of Miranda and Imogen's attention.
As they work, Del convinces Rodney that they should invite the girls back to their flat to see some other artwork. Along the way, they come across Trigger, Boycie, and Marlene, who all join the group. The scene is set for an amusing evening of art, drinks, and hilarity.
Back at Del and Rodney's flat, the group settles in for drinks and a viewing of some of Del's artwork. The paintings are terrible, but everyone pretends to be impressed. Rodney, however, is growing increasingly frustrated with the situation, especially as Del seems to be getting all the attention from Miranda.
Things take a turn for the worse when Trigger decides to show off his own artistic talents by drawing a picture of a horse. The drawing is terrible, but Trigger insists that it is a masterpiece. The group pretends to be impressed, but Rodney can't take it anymore. He decides to reveal the truth about Del's artwork, and the group quickly discovers that they've been had.
As the evening wears on, the group starts to break up. Miranda and Imogen leave, and Boycie and Marlene soon follow. Del, Rodney, and Trigger are left alone, and they start discussing their failed attempt to impress the girls.
As they chat, Del reveals that he actually has some talent when it comes to painting. Rodney is surprised, as he had assumed that Del's artistic aspirations were just another of his wild schemes. Del decides to show Rodney some of his better paintings, and Rodney is genuinely impressed. The scene ends with Del and Rodney sharing a rare moment of brotherly bonding.
Overall, 'Watching the Girls Go By' is a hilarious episode of Only Fools and Horses that sees Del and Rodney at their funniest. The scenes of them attempting to create artwork are particularly amusing, and the final scene between Del and Rodney is genuinely touching. Fans of the show will undoubtedly enjoy this classic episode.
