In Only Fools and Horses season 4 episode 4, titled "It's Only Rock and Roll," the Trotter brothers, Del and Rodney, are trying their hand at the music industry. Del has set his sights on becoming a music producer, and Rodney wants to be a rock star. The episode follows their misadventures as they attempt to make their dreams a reality.
The episode opens with Del and Rodney attending a rock concert, where they witness the lead singer of a local band collapsing on stage. Del sees an opportunity to become the band's manager and starts making plans to get them signed to a record label. Meanwhile, Rodney is busy practicing his guitar skills and dreaming of becoming a rock star himself.
Del's plan to manage the band hits a snag when he discovers that the lead singer is the son of a notorious gangster. Undeterred, Del decides to take a risk and sets up a meeting with the gangster in an attempt to persuade him to allow his son's band to sign a contract. The meeting goes badly, and Del ends up on the wrong side of the gangster, leading to him and Rodney getting beaten up.
Despite the setback, Del and Rodney don't give up on their dreams. They decide to form their own band, with Rodney on guitar and Del as the manager. They recruit a drummer and a keyboardist, and start practicing for their first gig at a local pub. However, they quickly realize that they're not very good at playing music, and their first gig is a total disaster.
Undeterred, Del and Rodney decide to try a different approach to making it big. They convince a famous rock star, played by guest star Paul Barber, to record one of his songs under their management. The plan is to release it as their own song and become famous overnight. However, things don't go as planned, and their attempts to get the song played on the radio are unsuccessful.
