Rodney decides to propose to a girl he has been dating for a while - Heather. Much to Del Boy's delight initially, Rodney wants to buy a diamond engagement ring, which Del sees as a potential profit-making opportunity. They go off to Hatton Garden, one of London's diamond districts to find a bargain.
While they are there, they bump into Raquel - a former singer and actress, and Del Boy's latest love interest. She is working as a cleaner in one of the diamond stores but is unhappy with her earnings and her job in general. Del tries to cheer her up by offering her dinner at a fancy restaurant. Raquel agrees, and they make a date for later.
After some tough bargaining, Del Boy manages to persuade the jeweller to sell them a diamond at a discounted rate. However, when they try to sell the ring back to the same jeweller for a higher price, they are caught out when the jeweller points out that the diamond is a fake. Del takes the ring out to the market to try and sell it to the public.
Meanwhile, Rodney is preparing to propose to Heather, with the help of Grandad. However, things don't go according to plan when Del accidentally spills the beans about the fake diamond. To make matters worse, Raquel shows up at the restaurant with her boyfriend who is a boxer, and Del Boy has to quickly improvise a plan to avoid getting beaten up.
In the end, everything works out. Rodney and Heather get engaged with a ring that Grandad had secretly procured, and Raquel and Del's relationship grows. However, the diamond debacle leaves Del Boy with a valuable lesson that you can't always fake your way to success.
