In Only Fools And Horses season 1 episode 7 "Christmas Crackers," the Trotter family prepares for a festive season in their own unique style. Del Boy, Rodney, and Grandad launch their own Christmas club as they gather together money to purchase gifts for the family. While Del Boy makes plans for a casino night, the brothers dream of buying a rare Batman comic book for their uncle. However, their plans soon fall apart when a stolen Santa Claus costume and a falling chandelier lead to chaos and confusion in the Trotter household.
The episode opens with Del Boy giving a motivational speech to Rodney and Grandad about the importance of the upcoming Christmas season. Del Boss describes the festivities as the opportunity to "give people what they want." The Trotters then decide to launch their own Christmas club in which they will gather money throughout the year in order to purchase gifts for the family for the Christmas season. However, they are unable to resist temptation and end up spending the funds on living expenses and various schemes.
Their plan to purchase a rare Batman comic book for their uncle quickly falls apart when the brothers find themselves short on funds. But they do manage to acquire a Santa Claus costume which they plan to rent out. During a test run of their enterprise, things go terribly wrong when their ladder collapses and a chandelier comes down on the costume. In a panic, they end up running away and leaving the costume on the street.
The episode climaxes when Rodney and Grandad suddenly remember the comic book they were planning to buy for their uncle. They frantically search for the funds they set aside, only to discover that Del Boy has spent the money. They then come up with a scheme to procure the comic book from The Driscoll Brothers, a notorious gang, by selling the Santa Claus costume. Chaos ensues as the three inadvertently become involved in a robbery of diamonds by the same gang.
Overall, "Christmas Crackers" is a hilarious episode filled with the trademark humor and charm that Only Fools And Horses is known for. The episode's title refers to both the festive season and the hijinks that ensue, making it a perfect addition to any Christmas television lineup. Despite the hilarious situations that arise, at the core of the episode is the importance of family and coming together to celebrate the holiday season.
