Ted and Margaret Meldrew are on holiday in Broadstairs. Ted is reading a crime novel called "Muder at Hotel Havenview", while Margaret is bored and wishes to visit Dreamland, an amusement park that doesn't quite live up to its name. They end up at Dreamland, which Margaret finds to be rundown and badly maintained. However, Ted is fascinated by the story of a double murder that happened at the park 48 years ago. Ted's interest in the case peaks when they witness a bizarre act of violence at the "haunted mansion" themed ride.
Meanwhile, back in London, the Meldrews' neighbor, Mrs. Warboys, is going through some troubles of her own. Her cat is missing, she's received a visit from the police, and her home has been ransacked. She decides to call the Meldrews, as she feels like she has no one else to turn to.
As they all convene back in London, Ted decides to investigate the double murder himself, visiting the park after hours in order to retrace the steps of the suspects. However, he ends up in a sticky situation when the park is locked down with him inside. Meanwhile, Margaret deals with Mrs. Warboys and her various personal and domestic issues, leading to a hilarious and unexpected finale.
"Dreamland" is a classic One Foot in the Grave episode, filled with dark humor, absurd situations, and witty banter between the characters. The juxtaposition of Ted's interest in solving a decades-old murder case and Margaret's annoyance with the amusement park provides a great contrast, and the addition of Mrs. Warboys' shenanigans adds another layer to the chaos. Overall, it's an entertaining and well-crafted episode that showcases the strengths of the show.
