Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood season 1 episode 1 titled "Vision" is a gripping and intense start to the series. The show is set in the year 1900 in Munich, Germany where the city is preparing for the famous Oktoberfest celebration. The episode introduces us to the main characters of the show - Curt Prank, the ambitious young brewer and his father, Johann Prank, who owns a small and struggling brewery.
The episode begins with Curt pitching his ideas to his father for expanding their brewery and competing with the big breweries in the city. Though his father is hesitant at first, he eventually agrees to Curt's plan. The father-son duo then sets off to the city to find a suitable place to set up their new brewery.
Meanwhile, we are also introduced to the rich and powerful brewing magnates in the city - the corrupt and ruthless Roman Hoflinger and the more level-headed and reasonable Ignatz Simmel. Roman is shown to be a man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants while Ignatz believes in fair competition and keeping up with the times.
As Curt and Johann explore the city, they stumble upon the land they need to set up their brewery - an abandoned factory owned by the wealthy Thoerner family. The Prank family quickly begins to renovate the factory and turn it into a brewery, but little do they know that Roman Hoflinger has also set his sights on the same factory and will do everything in his power to acquire it.
The tension between the Pranks and Hoflinger is palpable throughout the episode, and the stakes get even higher when a worker at the factory dies due to an unfortunate accident. Ignatz Simmel, who is a friend of the Prank family, comes to their aid and helps them with the legalities of the situation. However, Roman Hoflinger sees this as an opportunity to turn the situation to his advantage.
The episode ends with an unexpected twist that sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting and thrilling season. Overall, "Vision" is an excellent start to the series, introducing viewers to the characters and the stakes involved in the intense competition between the small and large breweries vying for control during Oktoberfest. The show is beautifully shot and gives a glimpse into the rich history and culture of Munich during the turn of the century.
