The advent of BUNMEI, the second episode of Occult Academy season one, opens with Maya, the newly appointed headmistress of Waldstein Academy, conducting a staff meeting. She's introduced to Bunmei, a self-proclaimed time traveler, who wants to assist the academy in their quest to find Nostradamus' key. His arrival doesn't bode well with Maya, who believes he's a scam artist who's come to profit off their search.
Meanwhile, the students at Waldstein Academy are trying to live their lives as normally as possible. Ami, the academy's resident bookworm, is approached by the popular girl, Kozue, who wants help with her history paper. Kozue hints that she knows something about President Maki, Ami's missing father, which prompts Ami to agree to help her. However, Kozue doesn't seem interested in just getting help with her paper, which makes Ami suspicious.
Back at the academy, things start getting strange when a ghost appears in one of the classrooms. The ghost seems to be looking for something, which leads Maya and Bunmei to believe that it might be related to Nostradamus' key. Bunmei manages to communicate with the ghost using a device he calls an "EMF reader" and even takes a picture with it, which actually captures the ghost's image. However, when the picture is shown to the students, it's shattered, making Bunmei's claim seem like a hoax.
Despite this setback, Bunmei persists on showing the academy that he's serious about his time-traveling abilities. He talks to Maya about how he's been following her and her father for a while, which doesn't go over well with Maya. However, things take a turn when Maya begins to see the ghost that they encountered earlier. She follows the ghost, which takes her to a hidden room within the academy building. Inside the room, she finds a time capsule that holds a message from her father about Nostradamus' key.
The advent of BUNMEI ends with the revelation that Bunmei may be more than just a scam artist. Maya sees him communicating with her father in the past and realizes that he may have come to help them find the key after all. Meanwhile, Ami confronts Kozue about her intentions, which leads to some unexpected twists.
Overall, The advent of BUNMEI is an intriguing episode that deepens the mystery of Nostradamus' key while adding some interesting character dynamics. Maya's relationship with Bunmei is the heart of this episode, with their conflicting personalities making for some amusing moments. Meanwhile, the subplot involving Ami and Kozue is a welcome addition, fleshing out the world of the academy beyond the hunt for the key. Occult Academy season one episode two is a satisfying continuation of the series that keeps the audience engaged and invested in the story.
