Ep 4. The Naked are the Dead

Detective Bobby Simone's last case has the 15th precinct on edge even though they are all unified in mourning his passing. However, Simone's former partner, Detective Andy Sipowicz, is taking it especially hard. Sipowicz is struggling with his emotions, and even a private meeting with Simone's widow doesn't bring him any solace. Despite this, Sipowicz throws himself back into work with a renewed determination. He and his new partner, Detective Danny Sorenson, take on the case of a murdered prostitute they believe to be from a wealthy family. The detectives soon discover that the victim was actually a disturbed young woman who was shunned by her own mother due to her mental illness. As they dig deeper into her life, they realize that the killer may have been someone she knew personally.

Meanwhile, Sipowicz finds himself drawn to Simone's old desk. As he's going through Bobby's things, he discovers a letter from Simone's estranged sister, who he didn't even know existed. Sipowicz, feeling a sense of responsibility to tie up loose ends for his friend, reaches out to the sister and tracks her down. The two talk, and Sipowicz is able to give her some small comfort in Simone's memory.

Meanwhile, Detective Diane Russell and ADA Sylvia Costas work on the case of a murdered transvestite prostitute. But when Sylvia finds herself locked in an elevator with one of the suspect's associates, she becomes a hostage in hopes of getting him to turn himself in.
