Detective Sipowicz and Detective Simone are called in to investigate a homicide that has occurred outside a suburban hospital. The victim, a teenage girl, appears to have been in a romantic relationship with an older man who was known to work at the hospital as a respiratory therapist. The detectives question the girl's family, friends, and coworkers in an effort to uncover any leads in the case.
Meanwhile, Sipowicz continues to struggle with his alcoholism and attends an AA meeting with fellow officers. Simone also attends the meeting to support his partner and ends up opening up about his own struggles with anger management.
Back at the precinct, Detective Medavoy tries to impress his new girlfriend by pretending to know more about the fashion industry than he actually does. His efforts are put to the test when a fashion model is reported missing and he is assigned to the case along with Detective Martinez.
As the investigation into the teenage girl's murder continues, several potential suspects emerge including the victim's ex-boyfriend, her coworker at a local fast-food restaurant, and the respiratory therapist who was dating her. Sipowicz and Simone work tirelessly to piece together the evidence and bring the killer to justice.
In the end, the detectives are able to solve both cases, but not without facing personal and professional challenges along the way. The episode ends on a somber note as Sipowicz reflects on his ongoing battle with alcoholism and the toll it has taken on his life and relationships.
