Detectives Sipowicz and Simone catch a case involving the murder of a woman named Lucy Welker. Lucy was a sex worker, and the detectives quickly realize that her line of work may have contributed to her death. Their investigation leads them to more sex workers who knew Lucy, including one named Denise who frequently shared a hotel room with her.
Denise tells the detectives that Lucy had been seeing a client named Michael Delaney, who she believed was a cop. The detectives look into Delaney and discover that he is indeed a police officer, but he denies having anything to do with Lucy's murder. However, they find evidence connecting him to the crime and ultimately arrest him.
Meanwhile, Detective Medavoy is dealing with his own personal drama as his wife's ex-boyfriend continues to harass her. The ex-boyfriend, now a successful businessman, tries to win her back with lavish gifts and fancy dinners, but she remains steadfast in her commitment to Medavoy. Medavoy, however, becomes increasingly jealous and confronts the ex-boyfriend in a heated altercation.
Back at the station, Detective Sipowicz is also dealing with personal issues as his estranged son, Andy Jr., reaches out to him for help. Andy Jr. has gotten himself into trouble and wants Sipowicz to bail him out. Sipowicz is torn, as he wants to help his son but also doesn't want to enable his irresponsible behavior.
As the detectives delve deeper into Lucy's murder, they uncover a web of corruption within the police department. Their investigation leads them to a high-ranking officer who had been protecting Delaney and other corrupt cops in exchange for sexual favors from sex workers. The detectives are horrified by the scope of the corruption and struggle to come to terms with the fact that some of their colleagues are involved.
In the end, justice is served as Delaney is convicted for Lucy's murder and the corrupt officer is exposed and punished for his actions. Medavoy and his wife reconcile, and Sipowicz makes a difficult decision regarding his son. The episode ends with the detectives reflecting on the case and the toll it took on them personally and professionally.
