Detectives Sipowicz and Simone investigate the murder of a Hasidic Jew named Yankel Eisenstein, who was found stabbed in a seedy hotel. The case is complicated by the tight-knit nature of the Hasidic community, which makes witnesses reluctant to come forward and cooperate with the police. Sipowicz and Simone suspect that Yankel's death may be linked to a power struggle within the community, as his brother Raphael is vying for a leadership position with the help of a charismatic young rabbi, Mendel.
Meanwhile, Medavoy and Martinez are assigned to look into a case of car theft, which seems like a routine matter until they discover that the culprit they have apprehended is a young boy who is part of a gang operating out of an abandoned building. As they pursue the case, they come to realize that the boy, who is only 14, is in over his head and may be coerced into committing crimes by a dangerous older man named Pedro.
As the detectives delve deeper into both cases, they face a number of challenges and obstacles. The Hasidic community is deeply suspicious of outsiders, and they struggle to break through the wall of silence that surrounds them. Additionally, Sipowicz is preoccupied by personal issues, as his estranged wife is pushing for a reconciliation. Meanwhile, Medavoy and Martinez must navigate the difficult terrain of juvenile justice and try to make a difference in the life of a troubled young boy.
As the episode progresses, the detectives get closer to solving both cases, but not before facing a number of twists and turns. In the end, they must rely on their instincts and their experience to bring justice to both victims and to make a difference in the lives of those they encounter along the way.
