With the title "One in the Nuts," one can already guess that the fourth episode of NYPD Blue's 10th season will have its fair share of humor. The episode opens with Detective Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) being assigned to investigate a case involving a stripper who was allegedly raped, while his partner Detective John Clark (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is tasked with conducting background checks on all recent hires at the police department.
As the detectives start their respective investigations, they soon realize that things are not as straightforward as they seem. Sipowicz, for example, discovers that the victim might have been lying about being raped in the first place, while Clark uncovers a scandal involving a fellow officer who has been sleeping with his subordinates.
In the meantime, Detective Medavoy (Gordon Clapp) is preoccupied with a different matter altogether. He is contacted by an old friend who asks him to investigate a strange case involving a man who has been repeatedly kicked in the groin, and now suffers from a permanent case of priapism, a painful and persistent erection.
As the detectives dig deeper into their respective cases, they soon find themselves at the center of a web of lies, deceit, and corruption. With the help of ADA Sylvia Costas (Sharon Lawrence), they must navigate through a maze of conflicting evidence and personal tragedies to find the truth.
Meanwhile, Sipowicz is dealing with his own demons. He is still grieving the loss of his wife and struggling with his sobriety, which makes it difficult for him to concentrate on his work. However, he finds an unlikely ally in the form of a recovering alcoholic, who manages to help him get his life back on track.
As the episode draws to a close, the detectives manage to bring the culprits to justice, but not before suffering a few setbacks of their own. Through it all, they remain steadfast in their commitment to their work and to each other, proving once again that they are the best of the best.
Overall, "One in the Nuts" is a fast-paced and entertaining episode that showcases the strengths of the show's talented cast, engaging storyline, and witty writing. With its mix of drama and humor, it is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and leave them wanting more.
