In Nurse Jackie season 2 episode 8, entitled Monkey Bits, Jackie is faced with a case involving a doctor who has accidentally severed his own finger. As Jackie and Dr. O'Hara race to save the finger, O'Hara is confronted with an old flame who is dying of cancer. Meanwhile, Zoey has to deal with the aftermath of her own romantic issues.
The episode opens with Jackie and Dr. O'Hara examining Dr. Cooper's severed finger, which they soon nickname "Monkey Bits". When Cooper arrives at the hospital with his finger in a bag of ice, Jackie and O'Hara immediately jump into action. They're able to reattach the finger and Dr. Cooper is incredibly grateful, even kissing Jackie's hand in appreciation.
As the day goes on, O'Hara is visited by an old flame, Sarah, who is dying of cancer. O'Hara is clearly still in love with Sarah, but is torn between wanting to spend time with her and maintaining her cool, detached demeanor. Sarah, on the other hand, seems perfectly fine with the idea of rekindling their relationship, telling O'Hara that she's never been able to find anyone who makes her feel the way O'Hara does.
Meanwhile, Zoey is dealing with the fallout of her own romantic drama. After breaking up with Lenny in the previous episode, Zoey is struggling to move on. When she discovers that Lenny has started dating someone else, Zoey is devastated and turns to Jackie for advice. Jackie, always one to speak her mind, tells Zoey that she needs to stop wallowing in self-pity and get back out there.
As the day progresses, the hospital is hit with a sudden influx of patients. Jackie is forced to work double shifts, leaving her exhausted and irritable. When she discovers that O'Hara has spent the day with Sarah instead of helping out with the patients, Jackie confronts her, causing O'Hara to lash out. The argument between the two friends highlights the tension that has been building between them throughout the season.
Despite the tension, Jackie and O'Hara are still able to work together when a patient crashes and needs to be resuscitated. As they work to save the patient's life, Jackie and O'Hara are able to put their issues aside and focus on the task at hand. It's a poignant moment that highlights the bond between the two women.
As the episode draws to a close, Jackie is finally able to go home and get some much-needed rest. She checks in on her daughters, who are both asleep, and takes a moment to reflect on the day's events. The episode ends on a bittersweet note, with Sarah passing away and O'Hara left to mourn the loss of her old flame.
Overall, Nurse Jackie season 2 episode 8 is a powerful episode that highlights the complexities of friendship, love, and loss. The episode is filled with tense moments and emotional twists and turns, making for a gripping viewing experience.
