In Numb3rs season 2 episode 6 titled "Soft Target," the FBI team is called in to investigate a deadly shooting at a shopping mall. Agent Don Eppes and his team soon discover that the shooter was not acting alone and that the mall was not randomly chosen as a target. With the possibility of another attack looming, the team races against time to identify the group responsible and prevent further casualties.
As they dig deeper into the case, they discover that the mall was targeted because it was the site of a controversial protest against the use of a certain hot-button political issue in advertising. The FBI team uncovers evidence that there may be a link between the shooting and the protest, leading them to delve further into the political motivations behind the crime.
As the investigation progresses, Agent Eppes enlists the help of his brother Charlie, a gifted mathematician, to help analyze the data and pinpoint the likelihood of another attack. With Charlie's help, the FBI team is able to develop a mathematical algorithm that allows them to narrow their search for the suspects.
Meanwhile, the team must also navigate the pressure and scrutiny of the media and the public, who are demanding swift justice and answers. Agent Eppes must balance his responsibilities with his dedication to finding the truth and stopping any further attacks.
In "Soft Target," the Numb3rs team faces complex ethical and political dilemmas as they race to stop a group that threatens public safety and the foundations of democracy. Through their teamwork and innovative use of mathematical analysis, they uncover the truth and bring the perpetrators to justice.
