In Non Non Biyori season 1 episode 9, titled "We Tried Having a Cultural Festival Broadcast, Subtitled," the girls of Asahigaoka branch school set out to put on their first cultural festival. They are inspired by the successes of other schools' cultural festivals, and they want to create an experience that will make their community proud.
They start working on different projects, such as homemade bread, a haunted house, and a talent show. However, they realize they need to find a way to get the word out about their festival, so they decide to broadcast it on the school's announcements.
Komari is put in charge of the announcements and quickly realizes that she has no idea how to work the equipment. After some clumsy attempts, the girls finally figure out how to create subtitles for the broadcast, allowing everyone in the small town to understand what they are saying.
As the day of the festival approaches, the girls are worried that no one will show up. However, their worries are quickly put to rest as the community turns out in full force to support their small school. They enjoy all of the activities that were put together with love and effort by the students.
The girls of Asahigaoka are thrilled with the success of their cultural festival, and they realize that they have created something special for their community. They thank everyone for coming and look forward to doing it all again next year with even more enthusiasm and creative projects. The episode ends with the girls reflecting on their experience and enjoying the memories they created together.
