No Offence is a British police procedural television series that aired from 2015 to 2018. The show was created by Paul Abbott, who is also known for creating another popular British series, Shameless. No Offence had three seasons, with a total of 22 episodes and aired on Channel 4 in the UK. Acorn TV began streaming the show in the US in 2017.

The series is set in the fictional Manchester Metropolitan Police station of Friday Street. Joanna Scanlan, who previously starred in hit British TV show The Thick of It, leads the cast as DI Vivienne Deering. Scanlan plays an unconventional and tough detective who runs her department with a no-nonsense attitude. She is joined by co-stars Elaine Cassidy, Alexandra Roach, Will Mellor, and Paul Ritter, among others.

No Offence is categorized as a police procedural, but it quickly becomes apparent that it is so much more than that. The show is more of a dark comedy, highlighting the absurdity and often confounding nature of police work. It also frequently portrays the socio-economic disparity in Manchester and the difficulties faced by the working classes.

At first glance, No Offence might seem like just another cop show, but it quickly becomes clear that it's something more unique. The series offers a refreshingly different perspective on the police force, often poking fun at the bureaucracy and the rigidity of the organization.

The show's humor blends seamlessly with its drama, and the writers have done an excellent job of balancing the two. There's a sharp wit to the dialogue that makes the show very addictive to watch. The show's humor is not just limited to the dialogue but extends to visuals as well. The viewers are in for an absolute treat for each episode.

The show also dives into some difficult topics such as human trafficking, drug trafficking, and radicalization that comes along with growing religious extremism in Manchester. No Offence handles these topics delicately, balancing drama and humor to produce a well-rounded viewing experience. It's a testament to the show's creators that the contrasting tones work so well together.

The characters are what really make No Offence stand out. DI Vivienne Deering might be the lead, but it's the dynamic between the entire squad that makes the show so enjoyable. Each character has their own quirks and characteristics, and they all feel well developed. Each episode comes with compelling character arcs that keep you hooked until the finale.

There is also a refreshing diversity among the casts where Joanna Scanlan's character is supported by a team from different backgrounds, including gay, Irish, and African characters. The show offers an excellent commentary on the racial and socio-economic tensions in Manchester while at the same time providing some of the best comedy on television.

Acorn TV subscribers will appreciate the fully fleshed out side characters who bring a unique perspective and energy to the show. Elaine Cassidy plays a crucial role as DC Dinah Kowalska, who joins the squad for the first season. Cassidy's character arc throughout the show is one of the best parts of No Offence, and she is sure to become a fan favorite.

Overall, No Offence is a fantastic show that offers a fresh perspective on the police procedural genre. The show handles some difficult topics and blends drama and humor expertly. The characters are all well developed and come with their own complexities, quirks, and strengths. This show is highly recommended to anyone who loves a good police procedural with a spin of comedy.
