Ep 4. Meet the Parents

In season 1 episode 4 of 90 Day Fiance Before the 90 Days titled "Meet the Parents," viewers are taken on a journey with the couples as they prepare to meet each other's families for the first time. The pressure is high, as meeting the family is a significant milestone in any relationship, but especially for those featured on this show who are navigating the challenges of getting to know and commit to someone from another part of the world in just 90 days.
The episode opens with Sean traveling to Haiti to meet Abby's family. Sean is excited to finally get to know Abby's mother and siblings, but he is also nervous about how they will perceive him. Abby warns Sean that her mother has very traditional views on relationships and may not fully understand their situation. As they approach Abby's hometown, Sean is surprised by the poverty and lack of infrastructure. Abby's family lives in a small house with no running water, and Sean is eager to prove himself to them as someone who can provide for Abby.
Meanwhile, Paul continues to struggle with his paranoia and anxiety as he prepares to meet Karine's family in Brazil. He has had bad experiences in the past with Brazilian law enforcement and is worried about how he will be perceived by Karine's family and friends. Karine tries to comfort Paul, but his anxiety gets the best of him as they approach her hometown. He insists on wearing a bulletproof vest for protection and has brought pepper spray and a stun gun just in case.
Jesse and Darcey are also preparing to meet each other's families, but tensions are running high after their argument in Amsterdam in the previous episode. Jesse's mother is eager to meet Darcey and see if she is the right match for her son, but Darcey is still upset and defensive after their fight. She worries that Jesse's mother will judge her for being divorced and having children from a previous marriage.
Finally, we see Rachel and Jon preparing to meet each other's friends and family in England. Rachel is excited to introduce Jon to her daughter and parents, but is also worried about how they will react to him. Jon has a criminal record and there is a significant age difference between them, so Rachel is nervous about how her family will perceive their relationship. Similarly, Jon is eager to show Rachel his hometown and introduce her to his friends, but he is also worried about whether or not their relationship will be accepted by those close to him.
Throughout the episode, we see each couple navigate the challenges of meeting the parents and loved ones of their significant other. Some encounters are more successful than others, but all of the couples are forced to confront their own insecurities and adjust their expectations in order to make their relationships work. From cultural differences to language barriers, each couple must overcome a unique set of challenges in order to prove their love to those who matter most to their partners.
