As the first season of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days continues, viewers are treated to an intimate look at couples navigating the confusing world of long-distance relationships. In episode three, titled "Language of Love," the couples continue to struggle with language barriers and cultural differences.
One of the couples featured in this episode is Sean and Abby. Sean, a divorced father of two from Ohio, has traveled to Haiti to meet Abby, a 20-year-old aspiring model. Despite Abby's limited English skills and their 22-year age difference, the couple hit it off and have been spending a lot of time together. In this episode, Sean uses a translator app to communicate with Abby and to impress her with his Haitian Creole language skills. However, when Sean takes Abby to a fancy restaurant to celebrate her birthday, the language barrier proves to be too much for them to handle.
Another couple featured in this episode is Paul and Karine. Paul, a 34-year-old from Kentucky, has come to Brazil to meet Karine, a 21-year-old who he met online. Their relationship is off to a rocky start, as Paul is paranoid about safety and brings a whole lot of luggage, including a massive lockbox. Despite Karine's limited English skills and Paul's tendency to act awkwardly, the couple tries to make the most of their time together. In this episode, they struggle to communicate effectively, particularly when Paul tries to explain his complicated legal history.
Darcey and Jesse also make an appearance in this episode. Darcey, a 42-year-old from Connecticut, has traveled to Amsterdam to meet Jesse, a 24-year-old from the Netherlands. The couple had a rocky first meeting, with Jesse questioning Darcey's intentions and Darcey getting frustrated with Jesse's lack of communication. In this episode, they continue to struggle with trust issues and cultural differences. Darcey tries to impress Jesse by speaking Dutch but ends up mispronouncing words and embarrassing herself. Meanwhile, Jesse takes Darcey to a museum and tries to explain Dutch art to her, but Darcey seems more interested in taking selfies.
Ricky and Melissa round out the couples featured in this episode. Ricky, a 33-year-old from Ohio, has traveled to Colombia to meet Melissa, a 28-year-old who he met on a language exchange app. Melissa speaks very little English, so Ricky has been using a translation app to communicate with her. In this episode, Ricky takes Melissa to a romantic dinner and gives her a necklace as a gift. However, there are signs that Melissa might be holding back, and Ricky worries that she might be hiding something from him.
Overall, "Language of Love" is a tense and emotional episode of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days. As the couples struggle to communicate and navigate cultural differences, viewers are left wondering whether their relationships will survive the long-distance and language barriers.
