The show Night Court follows the antics of Judge Harry T. Stone and the eccentric characters in his courtroom in Manhattan. Season 2 episode 10, titled "The Blizzard," opens with a heavy snowstorm hitting the city, causing chaos and delays throughout.
The episode begins with a young woman named Cindy entering the court seeking refuge from the blizzard. She is from a rural area and is not prepared for the harsh winter weather and is lost in the city. Judge Stone takes pity on her and decides to let her stay in the courtroom until the storm passes.
Meanwhile, the court’s staff is also dealing with the aftermath of the storm. The electricity has gone out, and the building is freezing. Bailiff Bull Shannon is struggling to keep warm, and his efforts to do so lead to some humorous moments throughout the episode. The court stenographer, Mac, has brought a generator into the courtroom but can’t get it to start, leading to even more frustration and hilarity.
As the day goes on, more and more people enter the courtroom seeking shelter from the storm. One of them is a man named Harold, who claims to have been mugged and robbed. However, the judge suspects something fishy about his story and decides to investigate. As he digs deeper, he discovers that Harold has been involved in a number of illegal activities and decides to throw the book at him.
Another person who shows up in court seeking refuge is a man named Lenny, who claims to be a songwriter looking for a place to stay until the storm passes. He begins to charm the court’s staff with his witty remarks and smooth talk, including Judge Stone. However, as the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Lenny is not who he says he is, and his true intentions are revealed.
Throughout the episode, the humor and chaos become increasingly frenzied as more and more people enter the courtroom seeking respite from the storm. The situation finally culminates in a hilarious scene where the whole court is singing Christmas carols together, led by Mac on the accordion.
Overall, the episode is a classic example of the comedic chaos that Night Court is known for. Despite the blizzard causing havoc throughout the city, the judge and his staff manage to keep their sense of humor and make the best of a bad situation.
