Complaint Box is the fourteenth episode of the third season of the television show NewsRadio. The episode starts with Dave Nelson, the news director of WNYX, bringing a complaint box into the office to encourage his staff to communicate their grievances anonymously. However, the experiment quickly backfires as everyone starts putting mean and cruel comments into the box.
Jimmy James, the eccentric owner of WNYX, is the first person to read the complaints and is hurt by some of the comments that are directed at him. He decides to take matters into his own hands by firing some of the employees who he thinks wrote the most hurtful comments.
Meanwhile, Matthew, the nerdy and socially awkward reporter at the station, is asked out on a date by a woman he's been crushing on. However, when he tells the woman about the complaint box, she becomes upset and thinks he's being mean and cruel.
As the episode progresses, the staff begins to realize that the box is causing more harm than good and they attempt to put an end to the anonymous bullying. Dave, Jimmy, and the rest of the staff come together to try and find a way to get the box back without causing too much damage to the morale of the office.
Complaint Box provides a commentary on the dangers of anonymity and the sometimes cruel and thoughtless behavior of people when they are given the opportunity to hide behind a mask. The episode is an entertaining look at the often fraught nature of office politics and the ways in which people can misunderstand each other.
Overall, Complaint Box is a funny and poignant episode that highlights the strengths of the NewsRadio series. With its witty writing and excellent ensemble cast, this third season installment continues to showcase the best aspects of the show.
