In the first episode of New York Undercover, titled "School Ties," viewers are introduced to the show's two lead characters, detectives J.C. Williams and Eddie Torres. The episode begins with a high school student named G recounts the story of his mother's murder to a group of his classmates. His story catches the attention of Torres, who happens to be at the school working security detail.
As it turns out, G's mother was killed in the course of a brutal robbery. Torres takes an interest in the case and begins working with Williams to investigate the crime. They soon learn that G's mother was a member of a local gang, which raises suspicions about who may have been responsible for her death.
As they delve deeper into the case, Williams and Torres encounter a number of twists and turns that lead them down unexpected paths. At one point, they discover that the murder may have been part of a larger conspiracy involving several members of the gang.
