In the season 6 episode 7 of New Girl titled "Last Thanksgiving," the gang returns for the traditional Thanksgiving episode. This time, things get interesting as they have a different host for the holiday festivities.
The episode begins with Jess and Cece discussing their Thanksgiving plans. They initially planned to have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner at their house but then realize they won't have time to cook as they are busy with work. Schmidt comes to the rescue with his idea of celebrating Friendsgiving at his office building, a place that was under hot water for bugs and other issues.
The gang comes together at the office, with Schmidt and Cece heading the cooking department. As the cooking starts, the gang discovers an old Family Feud box with Thanksgiving-themed questions. They start playing the game and soon realize that there are some unknown confessions buried deep within.
Flashbacks throughout the episode hint at something regretful that happened the previous year during Thanksgiving dinner, and most of the people in the gang seem to be guilty of something. We see flashbacks of Nick trying to impress Reagan by being too involved in making deviled eggs, Winston turning overly attached to his Foster cat Ferguson, and Coach getting caught up in a role-playing game.
As the game progresses, the group's secrets come to the surface, leading to a series of confessions. The truths unleashed not only make them feel comfortable but also clears up some misunderstandings that had been there for quite some time.
This episode showcases some of the funniest moments in the series so far. Winston's character, in particular, is portrayed as obsessively fond of his cat Ferguson, causing some hilariously awkward moments. Nick's attempts to impress Reagan only lead to more embarrassing moments, which will make you laugh out loud. Schmidt, as usual, is bent on showcasing his cooking skills and tries his best to make the dinner perfect.
As the dinner approaches, the guests start pouring in, including Cece's mother and a couple of Nick's flings. While everyone is busy celebrating the holiday spirit, Jess begins to feel left out and lonely. She soon finds herself at a bar, drinking alone and stuffing herself with turkey. As the game continues, things take a turn for the worse when a secret is revealed that could end up changing the dynamics of the group for good.
"Last Thanksgiving" is an episode packed with hilarious situations and revelations that you don't want to miss. As usual, the group is shown exhibiting their core character traits, making the audience familiar with their identities. It's an episode that reminds us of how important family is, even if it is a makeshift family of friends.
Overall, "Last Thanksgiving" manages to be a great episode filled with laughter, surprises, and some heartfelt moments. Whether you are a hardcore fan of the show or someone who just enjoys a good comedy, this episode is sure to provide endless entertainment.
