Jess is one of the roommates in an apartment in Los Angeles. The group's dynamic has changed as all of the roommates have a significant other- except for Jess. Seeing as she is the odd one out, Schmidt and Cece try to find her the perfect guy to date. They go out of their way to discover a variety of possible suitors, but none of them seem to measure up to Jess' high standards.
Meanwhile, Winston becomes incredibly attached to a particular single, well-groomed hair that he finds in his bathroom. He is convinced that this hair belongs to the perfect lady for him and spends all his time trying to find the woman it belongs to. Eventually, he concludes that the hair belongs to one of their neighbors and goes to great lengths to discover her identity.
Nick is obsessively brainstorming for his new book and turns to Reagan for advice. Together, they experiment with a variety of activities that will allow Nick to tap into his creative side. At the same time, Reagan receives an invitation from her dermatologist to attend a seminar on botox injections. Reagan is hesitant to attend, but eventually realizes she may have some worries she needs to address.
Through all these wild and crazy shenanigans, Jess is dealing with some unexpected news regarding her ex-boyfriend, who had left her holding the bag when he skipped town. The news threatens to upend her world and she has to decide how to deal with it. While managing the unexpected emotions that come with her ex's reappearance, she realizes that the perfect guy for her has been right in front of her the whole time.
This episode is filled with all the humor, hijinks, and heart that New Girl is known for. The characters are lovable and relatable, as they each navigate through the ups and downs of life and love. The absurdity of Winston's obsession with the single hair is hilarious, and Nick's attempts at channeling his creativity make for some great comedic moments. Jess' personal journey in this episode is particularly heartwarming, as it shows her growth as a character and her willingness to take risks in order to find true love.
