As the sixth season of New Girl reaches its midpoint, the gang continues to navigate the ups and downs of their personal lives and relationships, with the latest installment, "The Cubicle," putting a spotlight on their work lives.
The episode starts off with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) struggling to adjust to her new job at a fancy private school. She finds herself bored and lonely as she sits alone in her cubicle, with no colleagues to chat with or tasks to keep her mind occupied. However, her day takes an unexpected turn when a new colleague, Reagan (Megan Fox), arrives on the scene, bringing chaos and excitement into her life.
Reagan is everything Jess is not - she's confident, edgy, and doesn't take any nonsense from anyone. Jess is immediately drawn to her, and the two quickly bond over their mutual love of avocado toast and shared disdain for their sexist boss.
As the day goes on, Reagan takes Jess under her wing and shows her the ropes, introducing her to the other teachers and encouraging her to come out of her shell. However, things take a turn when Jess discovers that Reagan has a secret - she's been using the school's internet to run her own Etsy business on the side.
Jess is torn between her loyalty to Reagan and her sense of right and wrong, and ultimately decides to confront her about the situation. This leads to a tense conversation in the break room, where the two friends argue about the ethics of stealing from one's employer.
Meanwhile, Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Nick (Jake Johnson) are dealing with their own work dramas. Winston is struggling to impress his boss, who doesn't seem to appreciate his hard work and dedication. Nick, on the other hand, is feeling like a "cubicle monkey," stuck in a dead-end job with no prospects for advancement.
The two friends commiserate over drinks at the bar, with Winston offering some sage advice about the importance of perseverance and dedication in the face of adversity. Nick, however, remains skeptical, and decides to take matters into his own hands by staging a dramatic protest in the office.
The episode ends with Jess and Reagan coming to a resolution about their differences, and Nick and Winston finding a way to make peace with their work situations.
Overall, "The Cubicle" is a fun and fast-paced episode that highlights some of the show's classic themes of friendship, loyalty, and the challenges of growing up and finding one's place in the world. It's a great reminder of why New Girl has remained such a beloved and enduring comedy over the years, and why fans keep coming back for more.
