Jess is summoned to serve on a jury and is excited to fulfill her civic duty. However, when she arrives at the courthouse, she discovers that she has been selected for a high-profile trial involving a celebrity's manicurist accused of stealing. Jess quickly becomes invested in the case and goes above and beyond as a juror, but her fellow jurors are less enthusiastic and she struggles to get them to take the trial seriously.
Meanwhile, Nick and Cece try to help Schmidt win back his old high school girlfriend by staging a fake party at his apartment. However, their plan backfires when their real friends show up and the party quickly spirals out of control. Winston is dealing with his own problems when he tries to impress Aly's father by pretending to be a hardcore, outdoorsy type, which leads to comical mishaps.
Back at the courthouse, Jess starts to question her own judgment when she becomes convinced that the defendant is innocent. She tries to convince the other jurors to consider her point of view, but they are skeptical and dismiss her concerns. At the same time, Jess begins to suspect that one of the jurors is actually the culprit and sets out to gather evidence to prove her theory.
As the trial continues, tensions rise and Jess becomes increasingly desperate to convince the others of the defendant's innocence. She even goes so far as to stage her own mock trial in an attempt to sway their opinions. In the end, it is unclear whether Jess's efforts have paid off and whether justice has been served.
Overall, "Jury Duty" is a hilarious and entertaining episode that showcases the show's strengths in terms of its witty dialogue and relatable characters. It also highlights the importance of taking one's civic duty seriously, even when it seems like a burden.
