In NCIS Season 3 Episode 5, titled "Switch," the team investigates the murder of a sailor who was found dead in a hotel room. The initial investigation points to robbery as the motive for the murder, but as the team digs deeper, they discover a larger conspiracy.
The victim, Petty Officer Max Ochoa, had checked into the hotel with his girlfriend, but she is nowhere to be found. The team tries to track her down, but she seems to have disappeared without a trace. As they interview witnesses and follow leads, they uncover a web of lies and deceit.
Meanwhile, Director Shepard is struggling with a personal issue. She receives a letter from her father, who has been in prison for most of her life, asking to reconnect with her. Shepard is torn between wanting to reconcile with her father and her anger towards him for abandoning her as a child. She confides in Gibbs and the two bond over their troubled pasts.
As the investigation into Ochoa's murder progresses, the team realizes that his death may be linked to a larger criminal organization. They enlist the help of an undercover agent, Agent Lee, to try and infiltrate the group and gather more information. However, when their operation goes awry, the team is put in danger and must race against the clock to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
Throughout the episode, tensions run high as the team discovers that they may be in over their heads. The stakes are raised as they realize that their investigation has put them in the crosshairs of dangerous criminals who will stop at nothing to protect their interests.
In the end, the team is able to unravel the conspiracy and apprehend those responsible for Ochoa's murder. Director Shepard also decides to confront her father and start the process of reconciling with him. The episode ends on a somber note as the team reflects on the dangers of their job and the sacrifices they make to keep others safe.
