Gibbs and the team are called to investigate the murder of a marine in his apartment, with no apparent signs of forced entry. Upon examination, they find that the marine was suffering from severe sleep deprivation and was possibly taking performance-enhancing drugs.
As they delve deeper into the investigation, they discover that the marine was part of an experimental military program designed to allow soldiers to operate without sleep for extended periods of time. However, they soon realize that the program has serious flaws and may be responsible for the marine's death.
Meanwhile, Ziva is dealing with her own personal problems as she tries to navigate her relationship with her father, a Mossad operative. When her father arrives in town unexpectedly, Ziva must confront her conflicted feelings towards him and her loyalty to NCIS.
As the team races against time to unravel the truth behind the marine's death, they must also confront their own personal demons and learn to trust each other in order to solve the case.
In the end, the truth behind the marine's death is revealed, and Ziva comes to an emotional reckoning with her father and her own identity as both a Mossad and NCIS agent.
