Ep 6. Beneath the Surface

Tony DiNozzo, Ziva David, and Tali walk on a sunny beach. It is a dream sequence or a vision that Gibbs is having while he's still in his coma. He hears gunshots and wakes up. Vance updates Gibbs about the team's current mission, and it brings him back to the present.

The team is investigating the disappearance of a Navy Lieutenant who was on a top-secret project. The project involves creating a cloaking technology that can make a submarine invisible to the naked eye. The Lieutenant was the only one who had access to the project, and he was on board the USS Colorado when he disappeared.

To investigate the case, Bishop gets on board the Colorado posing as an investigator from the DoD. While collecting evidence, she discovers that the Lieutenant had a lover named Jesse who works in the submarine's kitchen. Jesse reveals that the Lieutenant was fearful for his life and was planning to come out of the closet and marry him.

As the investigation unfolds, the team learns that the cloaking technology is already in use, and the Navy is conducting classified missions off the coast of North Korea. While investigating further, the team discovers that the Lieutenant was killed because he discovered that the contractor who was developing the cloaking technology was playing both sides.

Meanwhile, Gibbs is still recovering from his gunshot wounds, and his memory is hazy. Kasie comforts him and helps him with his physical therapy. Gibbs remembers some details about his shooting, and Kasie encourages him to talk to Fornell about it. Gibbs visits Fornell and learns that the man who shot him was a former Marine who had suffered from PTSD. Gibbs thinks back to his time serving in the Marines and decides to share his story with Kasie. Gibbs tells her about his time in Iraq and how he's still haunted by the memories. He talks about how he sometimes wishes he had done things differently and how he's never forgotten the people he's lost.

Back on the Colorado, Bishop and Torres team up to take down the contractor who's responsible for the Lieutenant's death. They discover that the contractor is planning to sell the cloaking technology to North Korea, and they race against time to stop him. They manage to intercept the contractor and his men just in time and prevent them from handing over the technology.

In the end, the team mourns the Lieutenant's death and is glad that they could bring his killer to justice. Gibbs continues to recover and opens up to Kasie about his past. The team reflects on how even though they have to deal with difficult cases all the time, they still manage to come together and support each other. They all look forward to what the future holds for them and their work with NCIS.
