In NCIS season 10 episode 6, titled "Shell Shock, Pt. 1," the team investigates a series of seemingly unrelated crimes across the country, only to discover that they're connected to a former Marine suffering from PTSD, who is now a suspect. The episode opens with the Marine, Kyle, witnessing a robbery and murder at a convenience store. However, when the police arrive, he's too traumatized to give them any information that could help catch the criminals. Meanwhile, NCIS agent Gibbs and his team are investigating a shooting at a naval research lab in Virginia.
As they start to piece together the evidence, they realize that there have been similar crimes committed in other states, including one at a Marine recruitment office in California. Despite the different locations, the crimes share certain similarities, such as the fact that the victims were all tied up, and the perpetrators wore military gear. The team suspects that the crimes may be connected to some sort of bigger plot, but they're not sure how.
Soon, they discover that all of the crimes took place in cities where Kyle had previously been stationed during his time in the Marines. They track him down, but before they can question him, he flees. Eventually, they catch up to him and bring him in for questioning. Kyle is initially uncooperative, but eventually opens up to Gibbs about the issues he's been struggling with since returning from Afghanistan. He tells Gibbs about the nightmares, the flashbacks, and the feeling of constantly being on edge that he experiences.
Gibbs sympathizes with Kyle, but makes it clear that he needs to help them catch the people responsible for the crimes. Kyle agrees to help, and the team starts to work on building a profile of the suspects. However, they're interrupted by a surprise attack on NCIS headquarters by a group of men in military gear. While the team is able to fend off the attackers, the assault raises even more questions about who the perpetrators are, and what their ultimate goal is.
As the episode comes to a close, the team is left with more questions than answers. They're not sure who's behind the crimes, or what connection they have to the attack on NCIS headquarters. However, one thing is clear: they'll need to get to the bottom of it quickly, before any more lives are put in danger.
"Shell Shock, Pt. 1" is a tense and action-packed episode that delves into the issue of PTSD among veterans. Through Kyle's character, the show explores the emotional toll that military service can take on individuals, and the struggle to readjust to civilian life. The episode also raises important questions about the intersection of mental health and the justice system, and the need for more resources to support veterans who are struggling with PTSD. Overall, "Shell Shock, Pt. 1" is a thought-provoking and engaging episode that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
