Ep 3. 1970 NBA Finals Game 3

  • April 29, 1970

In the third episode of the first season of NBA, viewers are taken to the 1970 NBA Finals Game 3. The game features the New York Knicks facing off against the Los Angeles Lakers.

As the episode begins, viewers are transported back in time to the year 1970, where the NBA was in the midst of an incredible season. The New York Knicks had made it to the NBA Finals for the first time in over a decade, while the Los Angeles Lakers were looking to secure their first championship in more than five years.

The episode begins with a recap of the first two games of the series, which had been split between the two teams. In Game 1, the Knicks had won a close game by a score of 101-93, thanks in large part to the play of Willis Reed, who had scored 37 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. In Game 2, the Lakers had bounced back with a 105-103 victory, thanks to the clutch shooting of Jerry West, who had scored 33 points, including the game-winning shot with just three seconds left on the clock.

As the action switches to Game 3, viewers are given a detailed breakdown of the game, including the starting lineups for both teams. For the Knicks, Reed was back in the lineup after suffering a thigh injury in Game 2, while the Lakers were hoping to get another big performance from West.

The first half of the game was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to pull away from the other. Reed was playing well for the Knicks, but the Lakers were able to counter with great play from West and Wilt Chamberlain, who had been largely held in check in the first two games of the series.

As the second half gets underway, the Knicks begin to take control of the game. Led by Reed, who was playing with a level of intensity that had become his trademark, the Knicks are able to open up a double-digit lead on the Lakers. However, despite the deficit, the Lakers refuse to give up, and they continue to battle back, thanks in large part to the play of West.

With just a few minutes left in the game, the Lakers are able to cut the Knicks' lead to just four points. However, just as it looks like the Lakers might be able to come all the way back, Reed puts the game away for the Knicks. With just over a minute left on the clock, he hits a jumper that puts the Knicks up by six points, effectively sealing the victory.

As the episode draws to a close, viewers are treated to some post-game analysis from NBA experts, who break down the game and discuss what it means for the rest of the series. With the Knicks now up two games to one, they are in a strong position to win their first championship since 1973. However, the Lakers are a tough team, and they will no doubt be looking to bounce back in Game 4, which will be covered in the next episode of NBA.
