In the season 6 episode 7 of Mythbusters titled "Alaska Special", the team takes on a unique challenge of exploring the myths and legends that revolve around the freezing terrain of Alaska. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, along with their team of expert assistants, embark on a journey to the Alaskan wilderness to test whether some of the most popular myths that revolve around the icy domain are true or not.
The episode opens with a breathtaking view of the beautiful Alaskan mountains and dense snow-filled forests. The audience is then introduced to Jamie and Adam, who are equipped with a myriad of scientific instruments and tools that they plan to use to bust myths. The team's first mission is to see if they can replicate the scene from the 1982 movie "The Thing" where a group of dogs stumbled upon a deep frozen alien spacecraft.
As the team ventures deeper into the whiteout terrain, they are joined by a group of Alaskan natives who share their insights on the various myths associated with their culture. The team moves on to test the myths around igloos, which are dome-shaped houses made entirely out of snow and ice. The team examines whether igloos can be used as a means of shelter in extreme conditions and if Eskimo kisses are as warm as they are claimed to be.
The next segment of the episode takes the team out to a frozen lake, where they attempt to recreate a scene from a popular Alaskan myth that asks if a car would be able to move across a frozen lake. The team sets about their mission, with Jamie in the driver's seat of the car and Adam acting as a lookout for signs of danger beneath the ice.
The team's final mission involves them testing whether it is possible to build a heat source using everyday items that can survive in the harsh Alaskan environment. The team aims to use the natural elements in the environment, including ice, glass bottles, and duct tape, to build a functioning solar lens that can light up a bulb.
Throughout the episode, Adam and Jamie provide interesting background information about the myths they are testing, as well as scientific explanations for why some myths work while others do not. The team uses advanced scientific tools like thermal imaging cameras, go-pro cameras, and underwater cameras to get an in-depth look into the various experiments that they conduct.
The Alaskan Special is one of the most exciting and thrilling episodes of Mythbusters, as the team embarks on a dangerous and unpredictable mission, attempting to bust the myths of the notoriously unforgiving Alaskan terrain. The show is packed with intriguing information about the culture, history, and legends of Alaska, combined with thrilling action sequences and suspenseful moments. It's an episode that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to see the fate of each myth that's being tested.
