Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 8 Episode 9

Ep 9. I Was a Teenage Werewolf

  • April 19, 1997

In the eighth season of Mystery Science Theater 3000, episode 9 revolves around the film "I Was a Teenage Werewolf." As with all episodes of this cult classic series, the show follows the format of a man and his robot friends being trapped in space and forced to watch terrible movies sent to them by their captors. In this episode, they are forced to endure the classic horror film "I Was a Teenage Werewolf," released in 1957.

In this film, we are introduced to Tony Rivers, a troubled high school student who is having a number of issues in his life. His girlfriend has left him, his grades are slipping, and he's been getting into fights at school. Desperate for some sort of solution, he turns to Dr. Brandon, a local psychiatrist who specializes in hypnotherapy.

Under Dr. Brandon's guidance, Tony goes through a series of hypnosis sessions, during which he is convinced that he is transforming into a werewolf. Initially, this brings Tony a sense of confidence and power, but eventually, he realizes that being a werewolf is not all that it's cracked up to be. He becomes increasingly violent and dangerous, leading to a final confrontation with his girlfriend and the police.

As usual, the commentary from the man and his robot friends adds an extra layer of hilarity to the proceedings. They poke fun at the cheesy special effects, the wooden acting, and the absurd plot. They also make a number of pop culture references and jokes that will be appreciated by fans of the show.

Overall, this episode is a solid entry in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 canon. It's fun to watch the crew riff on such a classic B-movie, and it's clear that they are having a great time doing so. Fans of the show will definitely want to check out this episode, as it contains all of the elements that have made Mystery Science Theater 3000 such a beloved cult classic.
