Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 3 Episode 9

Ep 9. The Amazing Colossal Man

  • August 3, 1991

In this episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, the crew is subjected to the 1957 sci-fi film The Amazing Colossal Man. The film follows Glenn Manning, a man who is exposed to radiation during a plutonium bomb test, causing him to grow to a colossal size. Manning struggles with the physical and emotional toll of his newfound size, as well as the military's attempts to stop him.

As always, the crew of the Satellite of Love, including Joel, Tom Servo, and Crow, mock and riff on the movie as they watch it, providing their unique brand of comedic commentary. They poke fun at the cheesy special effects, the stilted dialogue, and the over-the-top acting.

Throughout the episode, the crew also takes breaks to engage in their usual antics, such as performing skits and songs inspired by the film. They also interact with Gypsy and Cambot, the other robots on the Satellite of Love.

One notable aspect of this episode is the running gag about the character of Dr. Cyclops, a scientist who appears briefly in the film. The crew repeatedly joke about his name and his strange appearance, which includes a large bald spot on the back of his head.

Overall, this episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 provides plenty of laughs for fans of the show and lovers of cheesy sci-fi movies. The crew's commentary is witty, irreverent, and often absurd, making for an entertaining and enjoyable viewing experience.
