Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 3 Episode 17

Ep 17. Teenage Cave Man

  • November 9, 1991

In episode 17 of season 3 of Mystery Science Theater 3000, the gang is subjected to a cheesy flick called Teenage Cave Man. The movie is a low-budget affair set in prehistoric times and follows the titular teenage caveman as he rebels against the traditions of his tribe and seeks to forge his own path.

As always, Joel, Crow, and Tom Servo are on hand to provide biting commentary and witty observations about the movie and its characters. Their jokes are as sharp as ever, and they manage to find humor in even the most mundane and ridiculous moments of the film.

One of the highlights of this episode is the way the MST3K crew mocks the overtly sexist and patriarchal attitudes of the movie's characters. They take aim at the way women are treated as little more than objects to be possessed and controlled by the men in the tribe, and they deliver some hilariously biting remarks about the outdated and ridiculous gender roles on display.

At the same time, the gang also makes fun of the movie's cheesy special effects and clunky dialogue. They poke fun at the way the teenage caveman (played by Robert Vaughn, who would go on to become a much more respected actor in later years) speaks in a strange mix of modern English and caveman jargon, and they have a field day with the film's bizarre and confusing plot.

Despite all the laughs and silly jokes, however, there are also moments of genuine insight and reflection in this episode. The MST3K crew grapples with the underlying themes of the movie, which deal with issues of freedom, individualism, and the tension between tradition and progress.

Throughout the episode, Joel, Crow, and Tom Servo offer up their own interpretations of the film's messages, and they engage in some surprisingly thoughtful and nuanced discussions about the ideas at play. Of course, these discussions are always laced with humor and snark, but they still manage to get to the heart of what makes the movie (and the show) so compelling.

All in all, Teenage Cave Man is a classic MST3K episode that offers up plenty of laughs, as well as some surprisingly deep insights into the human condition. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the show or a newcomer looking for a goofy way to pass the time, this episode is sure to delight and entertain you. So check it out and let the jokes fly!
