In this episode of Mysteries at the Museum, host Don Wildman takes viewers on a journey to uncover the stories behind intriguing artifacts and historical sites. Leading the charge is the contentious burial site of a Wild West legend, Buffalo Bill Cody. The mystery surrounding his final resting place and the efforts to relocate his remains are explored in depth, shedding new light on the controversial life and death of the iconic showman.
But the episode doesn't stop there - Wildman takes us to a Victorian house in New York where we see a grim reminder of past pandemic outbreaks. An unwieldy contraption from history used to treat Polio shows just how far modern medicine has come. We visit the National Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida, to see artifacts from the Navy SEAL team who took part in Operation Red Wings. The mission which was almost entirely wiped out in 2005, is remembered through a piece of equipment used by the SEALs.
Wildman also visits a museum in South Dakota to uncover the story behind the infamous Black Hills Gold Rush, and how it changed life for Native Americans and settlers alike. From rapid expansion to cultural tension and exploitation, the story of the Gold Rush is both enlightening and troubling.
As always, Wildman and the team also check out oddities that punctuate history, like the cursed doll named 'Annabelle' from The Conjuring movies. This creepy character is the focus of paranormal activity and even implicated in a murder case.
The episode winds up with a behind-the-scenes look at a new exhibition in New York's Hudson River Museum, which gives us insight into the works of an iconic 20th-century photographer. The collection features the works of Gordon Parks, known for his masterful images of black life, civil rights activism, and life in the deep south.
Mysteries at the Museum never fails to captivate viewers with its intriguing stories of our nation's rich past. Buffalo Bill, cursed dolls, and polio epidemics - it's all in a day's work for this fascinating episode.
