In the My Wife and Kids season 5 episode 12 titled "They Call Me El Foosay," we see Michael's competitive side come out when he challenges his wife Janet to a game of foosball. The episode begins with Michael, Janet, and their kids playing a game of foosball where Janet easily beats Michael. But Michael is not one to give up so easily. He begins to practice and becomes obsessed with the game. The family soon discovers that Michael has actually been sneaking away to play foosball at a local bar where he has gained a reputation as a skilled player, going by the name "El Foosay."
Janet is initially surprised and amused by Michael's newfound passion for foosball, but it soon becomes clear that his obsession is getting out of hand. Michael spends all his free time practicing and ignoring his family and work responsibilities. He even starts to neglect his appearance, wearing the same outfit every day and growing a scraggly beard.
The situation comes to a head when Michael's boss invites him to a big event on the same night as a big foosball tournament that Michael has been practicing for. Michael is torn between the two, but ultimately chooses to go to the tournament. His family is disappointed and wants him to see the bigger picture, but Michael is too focused on winning.
At the tournament, Michael faces off against a cocky opponent who trash-talks throughout the game. Michael stays calm and focused, even switching to a different foosball style mid-game to throw off his opponent. In the end, Michael wins the tournament and is hailed as a hero by the other players at the bar.
While Michael initially revels in his victory, he soon realizes that his obsession with foosball has taken a toll on his family. He decides to retire from the game and spend more time with his loved ones.
The episode ends with the family playing a game of foosball together, with Michael teaching his kids the basics of the game. It's a heartwarming moment that shows that while it's important to have passions and hobbies, family always comes first.
