In season 6, episode 4 of My Strange Addiction, viewers are introduced to two individuals with very unique addictions. The first is a woman named Evelyn who is addicted to air freshener. She has been using it for over 20 years and sprays it on herself and in her mouth up to 50 times a day. Her addiction has become so severe that she has experienced several health issues, including a collapsed lung, due to the chemicals in the air freshener.
Evelyn's addiction to air freshener started when she was younger and needed a way to cope with stress and anxiety. She found solace in the pleasant smells of air fresheners and became addicted to the instant gratification they provided her. Over time, her addiction grew and she began using more and more air freshener, to the point where it has taken over her life.
The show follows Evelyn as she attempts to come to terms with her addiction and seek help. She meets with a therapist, who tries to help her understand the root of her addiction and find alternative ways to cope with her emotions. The therapist also warns her of the physical dangers of her addiction and encourages her to seek medical attention for her health issues.
The second segment of the episode introduces viewers to the "Long Neck Woman," a woman named Venus who has spent over a decade stretching her neck using rings. This practice is known as "giraffe neck" and is a cultural tradition in certain parts of Thailand and Myanmar. Venus has taken this practice to an extreme level, wearing up to 15 pounds of rings around her neck at all times.
Venus' desire to have a longer neck started when she was a young girl. She was fascinated by the beauty standards of the women in her community, who wore neck rings as a symbol of elegance and femininity. As she grew older, she began to feel like she didn't fit in and that wearing neck rings would help her feel more accepted.
The show takes viewers on a journey with Venus as she attempts to remove her neck rings, which is a painful and difficult process. She meets with doctors and specialists who explain the consequences of wearing neck rings for extended periods of time, including nerve damage, blood clots, and difficulty breathing. Despite the risks, Venus feels a deep emotional connection to her neck rings and is reluctant to give them up.
Throughout the episode, viewers are given an inside look into the struggles and motivations of two very different individuals with unique addictions. The show sheds light on the dangers of addiction and emphasizes the importance of seeking help and support when dealing with compulsive behavior.
