Ep 13. Episode 13
My Dear Boy is a Taiwanese drama series that premiered in 2017. The show follows the story of a successful businessman, Guan Zhong Shan, who is in his 40s and has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. As a result, he must deal with the challenges of living with the disease while also trying to maintain his relationships with those around him.
Episode 13 of My Dear Boy picks up where episode 12 left off. In the previous episode, Zhong Shan experienced a severe episode of memory loss that led to him wandering the streets and forgetting who he is. In episode 13, he wakes up in a hospital bed with his ex-wife, Li Mei, by his side. As she tries to comfort him, Zhong Shan is confused and unable to recall what happened to him.
We learn that after his episode, Zhong Shan was found by a kind-hearted woman named Xiao Jie, who brings him to the hospital and contacts Li Mei. Li Mei is relieved that Zhong Shan is safe, but her worries quickly turn to anger when she realizes that he has been keeping his diagnosis a secret from their son, Guan Jia En. She confronts Zhong Shan about it, but he is unable to provide a clear answer.
Meanwhile, Jia En is dealing with his own problems. He has recently broken up with his girlfriend, Ching-Ying, after learning that she is only interested in him for his family's money. He tries to move on by going on a blind date, but it doesn't go well. He then turns to his friend, Wei-Wei, for advice and support.
Back at the hospital, Zhong Shan is visited by his colleague and friend, Hao Ran. We learn that Hao Ran has been noticing some odd behavior from Zhong Shan at work and suspects that something is wrong. Zhong Shan tries to brush it off and tells him that he's just stressed, but it's clear that Hao Ran is not convinced.
As the episode progresses, we see Zhong Shan struggling with his memory loss and the impact it's having on his relationships. He tries to reach out to his son to tell him the truth about his condition, but he's unable to find the right opportunity. Li Mei continues to be angry with him for keeping secrets, and Jia En is busy dealing with his own problems.
In the final moments of episode 13, Zhong Shan has a moment of clarity and rushes to find Jia En. He finally tells his son the truth about his condition, and Jia En is understandably shocked and upset. He leaves without saying much, leaving Zhong Shan feeling even more alone and helpless.
Overall, episode 13 of My Dear Boy is a poignant exploration of the challenges faced by those living with Alzheimer's disease and their loved ones. It's a compelling drama that isn't afraid to delve into the complexities of human relationships and the impact that a devastating illness like Alzheimer's can have on them.
